Day two AKN workshop

The day startd with the  a section of the participants who attended the India study tour organized by CTA sharing their experiences from the visit. These were Paul of Rwanda, Cleopa of Kenya, Nchenye of Tanzania and Belete of Ethiopia. Participants had a chance to ask the four questions after their presentations.

Pete then moderated the discussions looking at some recommendations for AKN where participants split into groups to discuss a case study of how climate change adaptation technologies are used, who should do it and at what level, the role of AKN and UNECA in this particular case and how the work will be funded.

Pete also shared the experiences of OKN and the tools it used to collect and share content called open share. Its limitations and successes. Some advantages of the software was the fact that it was open source as well as it could be used offline. He also shared about the telradio. (telradio.org)

The last session of the morning involved discussion groups which discussed……..

The afternoon session was moderated by Achekol Abebe

The session continued with hands-on training on the knowledge network Portal content and the participants were placed into two large groups with one group developing local to global content and the other doing global to local.
Each group then chose on one sector to develop the content. For example one group chose on indigenous knowledge mainly traditional medicine. The groups further discussed on the sources of their contents, the targeted audience, mode of sharing these contents, resources needed, the costs involved, business model, success indicators and the role AKN play in it. They then presented their contents in a proposal format.

The groups were also given copies of the proposed AKN website still under construction to criticize and make their observations and comments for the better improvement of the portal.
