The day startd with the  a section of the participants who attended the India study tour organized by CTA sharing their experiences from the visit. These were Paul of Rwanda, Cleopa of Kenya, Nchenye of Tanzania and Belete of Ethiopia. Participants had a chance to ask the four questions after their presentations.

Day One of the AKN Knowledge Sharing and Networking in the UNECA Region Workshop (Summary)

14th to 17th at the six eighty hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. UNECA has been implementing a UN project entitled "knowledge networks through ICT access points for disadvantaged communities" jointly with the United Nations Regional Commissions, with ESCWA as the lead agency, over a period of 36 months starting in 2006.

What gadget will technology ‘kill’ next?

There is no stopping for the evolution of technology. What was considered a phenomenon a decade ago is now obsolete. For instance, a typewriter was a must have for companies in 1970s and so was the Video Home Systems in 1990s. Today, computers, emails, mobile phones, CDs and DVDs are the things to marvel at.

Microsoft launches onslaught on counterfeiters of some its popular PC programmes in East and Central Africa

Businesses running pirated Microsoft software have been put on notice. The global software giant warns that it will carry out swoops in coming weeks in a bid to arrest the escalating problem of piracy of its software.

UCRC to host Community reading and cultural day on 29th Oct 2009

UCRC, a member of the telecentre network will host Reading and cultural day  on 29th October 2009. This is an event that will bring together schools, churches, book sellers and community libraries, local CBO’s and NGO’s.  The participants will contribute by contesting in different items such as reading competitions, story telling and songs.   The content will be in different categories and the winners shall be recognized and given awards.

Instaconnect hooks to Seacom but Internet costs unchanged

Instaconnect, a local Internet Service Provider (ISP) is latest signing to the Seacom’s undersea fibre optic cable.  The firm, the first to offer its customers a 300 per cent increase in bandwidth speed, however, maintains that its pricing will remain unchanged at least in the next 12 months to recoup part of the investment costs.

Mobile phone users will soon have to register their personal details if they are to remain connected.

Companies
providing mobile phone services were on Tuesday given six months to
register the details of their subscribers as the government moved to
deter criminals from using their gadgets for illegal activities.
